1. Obviously, the first and foremost part is to buy a guitar. Go for a well-made guitar, available at any musical instrument's shop. The sound quality of the guitar should be decent. It is also a good idea to pick up any guitar and try to make tunes. You can find a good guitar ranging from $75 to $200. Many well-known companies make guitars for beginners as well as the experts.
2. Now when you have a guitar in your hand, learn the basic chords, also said to be ''open chords''. These include C, G, A, and D. Once you practise these open chords, you will be able to play many songs. Pop to rock n roll. For this you may consult a book or ask for guidance from someone knowing how to play a guitar. 3. It is pretty good if you have an internet access. You can look for tablature of songs available on internet for thousands of songs. This may guide you how to hold your guitar and how to put your fingers on the chords, in order to play them. Books of tablature are also easily available in the market and you can buy them if there is no internet access.
4. Until now, you have perfection in your basics. The next stage is to learn ''barre chords'''. These actually include the shape of chords. Practice, by moving them up and down. For instance, the basic A and E chords are fingered the same way as the barre A and E chords, holding down the open chords with index finger while playing the barre chords. Practice a lot, through books or by playing while sitting vacant and you would soon recognize the chords. In the initial stages, your hand may sore and pain but your hands would soon get stronger.
5. Practice makes a man perfect. Practice on your desired tunes and it would make it more exciting to you. Turn on your TV and play guitar with the recorded songs so you may know better guitar techniques. Not a second of practice is a time waste; it will help you a lot.

6. Once you know all about guitar and the usage of chords go for finger picking. Many recent songs used this technique.  Some time may be required to know how to put the fingers but, after having online guitar lessons, you will be perfect!
